With the exception of our store, TUNE SUPPLY is supported through community contributions. There are four funds which we use to pay our artists and instructors, and to keep this website operational. We appreciate anything you are able to give.

We’re always looking for folks who can join our list of “anchor sponsors” for our big concert productions. Anchor sponsors make it so that we can guarantee pay for our artists’ work. We can’t do what we do without our anchor sponsors! If you’re interested in being on this list, please get in touch.

FAQs

Why should I participate in music online?!

Recent world events have made life uncertain for all of us. You might have been planning to attend a stage performance, take a lesson, or hear live music at your local bar, in the next few months. As we all do what we can to keep ourselves and our communities healthy, performing artists continue to innovate, creating new work and finding new ways to connect with audiences while making a living. Our goal is to bring “trad” straight to you in your home, while keeping everyone healthy and safe.

You are called TUNE SUPPLY but it seems like you also offer songs, dancing, and Classical music.

Yes, we work with traditional instrumentalists, singers, and dancers (as well as classical musicians). In trad lingo, we sometimes ask each other this question: “Fancy a tune?” Translated into modern English, this means “Do you want to engage in the playing/singing/dancing of traditional music in a pub/kitchen/other venue?” TUNE SUPPLY in this context refers to all three - playing, singing, and dancing.

It seems like TUNE SUPPLY features only trad performers. Can I request bluegrass/Scottish/old time/jazz/classical etc. tunes?

We maintain an extensive network of musicians around the world and are certain we can connect you with an incredible performer in whatever genre you would like. We love challenges…give us a try. We’ve also recently joined forces with GatherNYC in order to provide curated classical performances.

If you’d like to receive tunes from an artist in another genre, just specify this at checkout.

Will anyone else receive the tunes I’ve ordered in the Tune Supply Store?

Nope. Each tune order is unique, customized as requested, and only sent to one person.

How and when will my tunes be delivered to me/when will my lesson be scheduled?

You will receive your tunes within five business days after placing your order, via a private link. If you purchase a lesson, you’ll hear from your teacher within 48 hours of placing your order.

Can I post my tunes online or share them with others after I receive them?

No, please don’t! You’ll be asked to agree not to post the tunes or to share online when you check out. Feel free to show the original recording to your friends and family, of course! But please respect our performers by not posting, sharing, or broadcasting your tunes publicly. (If you are interested in buying tunes for a wider audience, email us at tunes@tune.supply to discuss options.)

What sort of recording quality should I expect?

Our performers will film/record your tunes using the technology they have available. We make sure the recordings are clear and of good quality, but please note that most performers do not have recording studios at home. However, each recording is unique based on the request of the patron, will reflect the personal style of the performer, and will be personalized for you…which is not something you can say about any Top 10 record!

Can I select a certain type of tune? A certain instrument? A certain musician?

Sure! When you purchase a tune set, you’ll be asked if you’d like to make any special requests. If you don’t have any requests, we’ll assign an amazing artists to your order. Our entire roster is made up of world class musicians and dancers and we guarantee you’ll love your tunes. (If you don’t, email us at tunes@tune.supply and we’ll find a solution.)

My organization/school/institution wants to put together an online recording/streaming concert/etc. Can you help with that?

Yep. On our fourth day of business, we received a call at noon from a major university asking if we could put together two streaming concerts and one hour-long recorded concert featuring top trad artists from around the world. Eight hours later, we’d produced the three concerts, the last going live at 9:30pm. We are certain we can help with whatever your project is, no matter how big or small.

I am a student and would like to request a recording of a single tune/set of tunes that I can learn from. Is this possible?

Yes, you can do so in our store! Good on you for studying this music we all love so much.

Are songs tunes? Are tunes songs?

A really great way to get a dirty look at a traditional music session is to call a song a tune, or vice versa. Songs have words, and tunes don’t! If you’d like to order a song (i.e., from a performer who sings), we certainly have that option available.

I am a professional trad player/singer/dancer. Can I get in on this?

Sure! Send us your bio and some clips of you playing/singing/dancing, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible. (tunes@tune.supply)

Whose crazy idea was this?

Caitlin Warbelow and Chris Ranney, two trad musicians in the band of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical COME FROM AWAY, are leading this project. They welcome all comments, questions, and suggestions of tunes they should learn at tunes@tune.supply.
