Gerry Harrington
Gerry grew up in Kenmare County Kerry under the influence of some of the great players of the day, Connie O'Connell, Dennis McMahon, Séamus Creagh and Jackie Daly. In Kenmare in those years there was a very vibrant Folk Club founded by another local musician Joe Thoma. In the 1980s Gerry moved to America and lived in Milwaukee and visited Chicago as often as possible, playing tunes with Johnny McGreevy, Liz Carroll and others. Gerry's music was brought to a wider audience during the nineties through the release of two exquisite albums with accordion player Eoghan O'Sullivan, Scéal Eile and The Smokey Chimney. Another perfect match was formed when Gerry recorded The New Road with button accordion master Charlie Piggott. Gerry has recently recorded two albums “Fortune Favours The Merry” and “The Merry Love To Play” with very well known Sligo flute player Peter Horan from Killavil. Gerry's latest recording “At Home” is a solo fiddle album which has a music from Sliabh Luchra and Sligo. The depth of tradition in Gerry’s playing is formidable, and yet the sound remains fresh and exciting. The listener is treated to rare versions and tasty interpretations of tunes, a natural coming together of skill and sensibilities that strikes to the very heart of the music. Audiences from Alaska to Ohio, and from California to New York were delighted with his simple yet elegant playing. When not performing in Europe, the US, and Ireland, Gerry teaches intermediate and advanced fiddle lessons.
